Dr. Richard Nepomuceno obtained his medical degree from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine. After being awarded Most Outstanding Ophthalmology Intern at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital, he completed his Ophthalmology residency at the same institution. This was followed by an External Eye Disease fellowship at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, UP-Philippine General Hospital and another fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, University of California, Los Angeles, USA.

He is a board-certified ophthalmologist and is a Fellow of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a Fellow of the Philippine Cornea Society. He is a member of various medical societies here and abroad including the Asia Corneal Society, Philippine Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and a former officer of the Philippine Cornea Society.
